EU Toy Safety Directive Testing (EN 71)
For all toy products sold in the European Union, compliance with the EN 71 standards is mandatory.
What is the Toy Safety Directive?
Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC is the European legislation that regulates the safety of toys, which defines any product designed for use by children aged 14 or younger. In order to enter the European market, toy manufacturers and retailers are required to comply with the essential safety requirements of the Directive.
In 2019, the European Commission (EC) incorporates the EN 71-3 standard with Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC to improve the quality of toy products entering the European market. The shift from the old standard EN 71-3:2013+A3:2018 to the newly harmonized standard EN 71-3:2019 allows a transition period of withdrawal until 15th April 2020.
Eurofins Malaysia offers a safety testing solution to ensure the toy products meet EU toy safety essential requirements under EN 71-3: 2019: Migration of certain elements. In addition, Eurofins extended network of laboratories in China is offering testing solutions such as EN71-1: Mechanical and physical properties and EN 71-2: Flammability.
