EU legislation restricting the use of hazardous substances (heavy metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and hexavalent chromium and flame retardants such as polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) in electrical and electronic equipment since July 2006.

Substance restrictions

  • Pb (Lead and its compounds) not more than 0.1%
  • Cd (Cadmium and its compounds) not more than 0.01%
  • Hg (Mercury and its compounds) not more than 0.1%
  • Cr-VI (Hexavalent chromium) not more than 0.1%
  • Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) not more than 0.1%
  • Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) not more than 0.1%
  • Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) not more than 0.1%
  • Butylbenzyl phthalate (BBP) not more than 0.1%
  • Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) not more than 0.1%
  • Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) not more than 0.1%
